Research shows that exclusive breastfeeding can actually help or prevent certain types of allergies. Breast milk contains five antibodies, namely Immunoglobulin A, D, G, M, and E. Babies experience allergies while breastfeeding generally not because of breast milk, but foods containing cow’s milk that are consumed by the mother. There is a small amount of cow’s milk protein that passes into breast milk, which can trigger an allergic response in babies. Children who are allergic to cow’s milk will usually show symptoms, such as crying constantly, refusing to eat, difficulty sleeping, acute diaper rash, vomiting, chronic diarrhea, eczema, and itching.
