– A study published in the Journal of Nature Products found that there are several compounds in marijuana that can prevent the entry of the corona virus into human cells. The study shows that two compounds normally found in hemp, cannabigerolic acid (CBGA) and cannabidiolic (CBDA), can prevent SARS-CoV-2 from entering cells that normally line internal organs and skin. Hemp, part of the Cannabis sativa species, is a species of cannabis that is grown for industrial and medicinal purposes, including in dietary supplements, animal feed, and cosmetics. In research conducted in this laboratory, the two compounds were able to bind to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, the ‘weapon’ of the corona virus to infect. He continued, “The compound binds to the spike protein so it cannot bind to the enzyme ACE2, which is abundant on the outer membrane of endothelial cells in the lungs and other organs.” The two cannabis compounds are also equally effective against the alpha and beta variants of the corona virus. Van Breemen hopes his findings will apply to other existing and future coronavirus variants. Read also: Unud virologist says the government has serious problems with Covid-19 tracing.
